LIST YOUR PHOTO ASSISTING ADVERTISEMENT.

Keep your listing as simple as possible

Stick only to the main facts about you and your skills / qualities, name cameras and equipment that you have used, mention software packages and how fluent you are with post production skills, air brushing etc, Don’t forget any lighting skills, flash systems you have used and your camera familiarity. Not everyone uses digital so if you have assisted with large or medium format roll film or sheet film cameras then mention it and name the cameras.

Do you make a nice coffee ? Speak any foreign languages ? Have any skills that could be usefull in photography ? Hows your customer service skills ? Are you usefull on a computer ?

Being a photo assistant is not just about working with cameras, it’s a combination of many things…..
Like any other job you must use and show common sense, maturity, be able to take orders and occupy yourself when things are quiet, be prepared for the unexpected and always happy to go and fetch the sandwiches, find a pet shop for the unexpected hire of a frog, a fuit and veg shop for a plantin or to find a hardware shop for some gaffer tape because someone knocked the tripod over and snapped a lock.
If you make an effort and don’t think of yourself as a skivvy then your attitude could do more good for you than someone twice as skilled as you but has an attitude….

Never lie about your capabilities, you will embarrass yourself, your employer and ultimately get a bad name.

Do not include your home phone number on your listing, if possible, use a secondary mobile number and keep this seperate from your regular number.

For best search results on this site by visitors, it is a good idea to Include your general location eg Walthamstow, East London rather than simply UK or London.

Do not include your full address !!

Do not expect to be working as an assistant next week – it takes time to get in the door and you stand a better chance of getting started if you are prepared to cold sell yourself by making phone calls and knocking doors…. if you cant’t be bothered to make these efforts then don’t expect any work to come knocking your door…..
